The ‘Scottish Village’ Cultural Events
Our client wanted to be able to create festivals of culture, in locations across the world, within a self contained structure, which would promote the culture, brands and products both inside and out.
Simple? Well no, but that is where the power of great design is critical.
We had two design challenges to solve.
Create a structure which could be branded inside and out
Develop a structure which was BIG, transportable yet robust to survive in any climate
We knew this would be unique and bespoke.
This could not have been possible with us marrying two design disciplines - architecture and graphic design
Architecturally, we took components from exhibitions and civil engineering to design a modular and customisable structure which at its largest was 750sqm but could be configured in sections; build outdoors in any setting or erected indoors.
This was not an off the shelf solution. Reflected in the £1m plus budget, this design was built for worldwide use and built to last.
And with customisable branded components, the interior provided endless opportunities for brands to be showcased; exhibitions, launches, concerts and conferences.
We designed a ‘village’ - an event structure which we built in London, in Glasgow and in New York.
It even formed the centerpiece of the G8 summit, used as a media structure and adorning the backdrops of every single media broadcaster on the planet!
This project was the demonstration of design as both an artistic expression and a practical solution. We got this just right - we built a little slice of Scottish life for wherever we took it. And we designed a practical and reliable piece of architecture which just worked. Everywhere!
